Every few days I have thought I must write a blog to let you all know what’s been going on and then the time goes and it hasn’t got written. The last few weeks have been busy (my mum moved house, for one thing, so we have been very taken up with getting her sorted out and settled in).
Last time I posted, we had six doddery old ladies in the bottom half of the Explorer, the two youngsters in the top half and Cosmo on his own in the Furet awaiting the snip. Now we have two old ladies in the explorer and one in the small hospital cage; Scarecrow and Misty will be moved into the Mary tomorrow at cage cleaning, as it’s a single level cage which will be better for them. Sirocco is very frail and is better by herself for the moment, but we don’t expect her to last much longer. Susan, Boots and Ragweed have all left us recently. It’s inevitable when you have several rats all around the same age that they will go together, so we have been expecting this for some time, but it doesn’t make it any easier.
Meanwhile Cosmo had his little operation nearly four weeks ago. He was recovering well, then decided to develop an abscess on the op site which we are bringing under control (which in practice means regular visits to the vet to have it lanced, something he is very unimpressed with). He has been promised girlfriends, and all being well I will be collecting them from a friend on Monday – three six-month old girls who will be a match for him, I hope. He doesn’t like being alone, but doesn’t like the younger boys. Girls will be a different prospect and he shouldn’t feel threatened by them.
The young boys are growing up well, which is always pleasing. I took a few pictures at playtime this evening:
They are becoming nice handsome chunky boys, and are friendly and inquisitive. Might even try them out at a show soon 😉
